CDC Releases Recommendations for the Use of Video Directly Observed Therapy (vDOT)

On March 23, 2023, CDC released Recommendations for Use of Video Directly Observed Therapy During Tuberculosis Treatment — United States, 2023 in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. CDC recommends Video Directly Observed Therapy (vDOT) as an equivalent alternative to in-person DOT for people undergoing treatment for diagnosed TB.

vDOT is a type of electronic DOT that uses a video-enabled device (e.g., smart phone, tablet, computer) to facilitate treatment observation through a remote interaction between patients and health care workers.

To find supplementary information that addresses additional considerations, concerns, and limitations of vDOT, please visit the CDC website.

The U.S. TB Elimination Champions Project provides an opportunity to recognize accomplishments and learn best practices from individuals who are making significant contributions to eliminating TB in the United States. This year, CDC sought nominations for individuals and organizations that have adapted to the changing public health landscape and those working to ensure health equity in TB prevention and treatment.

On March 14, CDC recognized 19 2023 CDC U.S. TB Elimination Champions.

Visit the U.S. TB Elimination Champions website to learn more about this year’s Champions. CDC will share these inspiring success stories through the CDC website, Twitter, and Facebook.
