B

The Brown University Ukraine Collaboration: Addressing Pediatric HIV and TB Coinfection
This collaboration engages the resources of Brown University and the Elena Pinchuk ANTIAIDS Foundation to assist in addressing care for HIV and TB coinfected children. In Ukraine, the incidence of TB among children with HIV in 2011 was 268 times higher than the incidence among children in the general population. According to the available official data, 91 children with HIV infection became ill with TB in 2011, although the numbers fail to expose full scope of the problem. There are many challenges to addressing TB in children, including diagnosis, lack of appropriate second line therapies, and better prevention to those at risk. Addressing those challenges is critical in Ukraine.
