Facility TB Profile: Working With Community Health Agencies to Strengthen LTBI Activities

This resource will provide health departments with the ability to identify health care facilities in the community where targeted TB testing and treatment of LTBI are likely to be most successful and efficient. Used in conjunction with another product developed by the New Jersey Medical School National TB Center (NTBC), Identifying Missed Opportunities for Preventing TB, health departments should be able to strengthen activities in specific target facilities in the community.

The ENGAGE-TB Approach: Integrating community-based tuberculosis activities into the work of nongovernmental and other civil society organizations

The purpose of this document is to provide operational guidance to NGOs and other CSOs and NTPs or their equivalents in implementing and scaling-up integrated community-based TB prevention, diagnosis, treatment and care using the ENGAGE-TB approach described in the document. The principles are aligned with the Stop TB Strategy and are complementary to existing guidelines for engaging all health care providers (including NGOs) in TB prevention and care as part of a public–private mix.

LTBI Program Implementation in a Substance Abuse Treatment Facility

This report discusses a client-centered approach to treating latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI) in substance abusers at an outpatient treatment facility. The report describes needs assessment at a specific clinic, including the client profile, initial medical screening, existing TB follow-up procedures, problems with the existing follow-up procedures, and the strategy for implementation. The implementation plan, its objectives, revised procedures and advantages of the revised procedures are presented. The report includes the results of this new treatment approach and follow-up procedures. Under this new treatment plan, clients who are positive for active TB are referred to the health department while those with LTBI receive DOT therapy at the same time they receive methadone treatment. The nurse can then monitor the client for adverse reactions.
