The page contains links to CITC’s 2009 edition of Radiographic Manifestations of Tuberculosis: A Primer for Clinicians (hard copy and online versions) as well as our newest product, Basic Chest Radiology for the TB Clinician. This online self-study presentation provides learners with an introduction to TB radiology through CITCs’ Medical Director, Lisa Chen MD, presenting the basics of how to read chest radiographs. This presentation covers basic anatomy, disease patterns, and tuberculosis-specific radiographic presentations. Learners can follow the presentation by listening or reading along at their own pace. A companion document, Basic Chest Radiology for the TB Clinician Presentation Materials consists of an animated teaching slide-set which covers the same material in a downloadable format that you can use to present your own radiology seminar. The teaching notes are more detailed than in the self-study version and help prepare the presenter with background information for training as well as offering interactive teaching suggestions and slide-show animation cues.

Radiographic Manifestations of Tuberculosis: A Primer for Clinicians

Using a self-study format, this publication presents the physical principles of plain chest radiography, enabling clinicians to 1) understand how chest radiographs are created and why normal anatomy and pathology may or may not be visualized using radiographs; 2) gather information from the radiograph; and 3) read and interpret chest radiographs for the presence of TB disease using standard terminology.

It is not meant to provide detailed answers to all public health or clinical questions about TB, and it is not meant as a substitute for any specific guidelines. It is anticipated that new guidelines will be published in the future that will supersede information in this document, and these new guidelines will be posted on the DTBE website: https://www.cdc.gov/tb.
